“To Santa Claus and Little Sisters” is the title of this poem. It was written in the 1960s by an  Anonymous 15 year old boy, 2 years before he committed suicide. Osoanon Nimuss wrote a very similar version to this, he titled it Absolutely Nothing and Steven Chbosky (The perks of being a wallflower) used Nimuss’ version in the Perks Of Being A Wallflower. This poem is also in English curriculum for a lot of high schools. It is a very powerful poem, and although it is very blunt, there is so much more meaning and depth behind each line.

let-me-write-it-out-for-you:

My family keeps
telling me that my dreams
of being a doctor
will be reality soon enough
when I’m in the office
giving a small child their shots
or fixing a kid’s sprained
ankle.
But the more and more
I think,
I realize those aren’t my dreams.
They’re my mother’s
and father’s
and sister’s
and grandmother’s.
But the more and more
I think,
I realize I don’t know
who I want to be
when I’m an adult.

hourses:

you are not a lovesick girl; you are not
a lovesick girl:
you are: lust-sick

and he does not know
how words find their way up the dusty, rickety ladder
your spine is
so easily

and he: does not know
-his teeth are beautiful
-his jaw is as firm as the sunshine, tagged
 on the inside of your collar
-he is beautiful he is beautiful
-you are not a lovesick girl;
-you are not a lovesick girl;
-you are:
-lust-sick.
